Diocesan Regional MATs

Bishop Peter Doyle is currently looking for several Foundation Directors to provide strategic management and oversight of two new Diocesan Multi Academy Trusts (MATs).

The leaders, governors and directors of our Catholic schools are central to ensuring that the spiritual and academic life is the best it can be. Helping them and supporting more people to take on these rôles is crucial for the future of Catholic education in our diocese. If you have specific skills outlined below which you have used within your careers’ we would be delighted to hear from you.

We need people who, in the midst of all changes to education policy, will keep Christ at the centre of everything they do. I would like you to consider whether you are someone who could serve our children as they grow in faith by working as a Director of one of 2 newly created Academy Trusts or on the body with strategic oversight of the Academies.

Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Academies trust (OLICAT) will initially comprise of the Catholic academies in Bedford, Northampton, Kettering and Corby. St Thomas Catholic Academies Trust (STCAT) will initially comprise of the Catholic academies in Luton, Central Bedfordshire and Slough.  It is Bishop Peter’s expectation that all diocesan Catholic schools will join one of the new Diocesan MATs in time.

The new Diocesan MATs will be formed in January 2020 and we are looking to have a shadow board of Trust Foundation Directors in place for the Pentecost term 2019. There will be specific training and development sessions, held centrally from July to December 2019 to support all of those involved in such an important part of governance of Catholic education within the Diocese.

We are looking to appoint practicing Catholics with a variety of skills and experience including the following:

  • Human Resources/People Management
  • Education Governance
  • Finance and Risk Management
  • Catholic Life/Formation
  • Business/Marketing

Trust meetings are likely to be termly, and take place in the evening, though Directors will be required to visit academies during the school day and attend training sessions held across the Diocese.  A priest’s reference will be sought for all candidates.
