Multi Academy Trusts Across the Diocese

Northampton Diocese has chosen the Multi-Academy Trust model for our schools as we believe this builds upon already strong partnerships between schools.    We have been committed to this model since the Diocesan Trustee decided that in the light of the current political agenda  all our schools would seek academy status.

Further information about how MAT's are structured and governed can be found in the National College of Teaching and Leadership publication Governance in Multi-Academy Trusts.

There are currently two Multi-Academy Trusts in our Diocese:

  • St Thomas Catholic Academies Trust: St Margaret of Scotland Primary (Luton); St Martin De Porres Primary(Luton), St Vincent's Primary (Houghton Regis), St Mary's Primary (Caddington), Cardinal Newman Secondary (Luton), St Josephs High School (Slough), St Anthonys Primary School (Slough) and St Ethelberts Primary (Slough).
  • Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Academies Trust - St John Rigby Primary (Bedford), St Joseph's and St Gregory's Primary (Bedford, St Thomas More Secondary (Bedford), Our Lady of Walsingham Primary (Corby); St Brendan's Primary (Corby); St Edward's Primary (Kettering), St Thomas More Primary (Kettering). St Gregory's Primary (Northampton) St Mary's Primary (Northampton); Good Shepard Primary (Northampton) and Thomas Becket Secondary (Northampton).

In February 2019, the Bishop of Northampton and the Trustee agreed to the formation of these two new MATs to enable the diocese to bring more schools together.  It is the Bishop's expectation that Our Lady Immaculate Catholic AcademiesTrust will comprise all schools in Northamptonshire, Bedford and Milton Keynes and that St Thomas Catholic Academies Trust will comprise all schools in Central Bedfordshire, Luton, Buckinghamshire and Slough.  These new MATs were formed on 1 February 2020 and it is our Bishop's expectation that all schools will join in time.

We are currently recruiting Foundation Directors for Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Academies Trust.

The MAT Board is made up of Directors who act to set the strategy of the MAT, uphold its legal position and hold the individual academies to account.  Directors are registered at Companies House and are bound by such legislation.
